For 5+ years, Coach B. and the Professor hijacked the airways each week on Loyola Radio to bring you everything you needed to know, and many things you didn't, from the world of Golf, Sports and Entertainment.

IN THE ROUGH! ended its run in February of 2010 but lives on right here on the world wide web.

Today Was A Good Day

It was sunny and warm so the Professor went topless. This is always a good thing, since everyone knows that he looks cooler that way. It usually turns heads on campus at least.

Then the Professor's favorite band (The Cowboy Junkies for you supposed 'listeners') announced a March 31 show at Rams Head Tavern in Annapolis. The quick-thinking Professor skillfully abandoned management of the live radio show and booked a pair of seats in front for he and Mrs. Professor (or Coach if Mrs. Professor makes him sleep on the couch again).

And then, to top it all off, having just finished his evening milk and cookies (ok, bourbon and chips, whatever) his last check of the headlines before putting on his sleeping cap reveals....

At least that's what appears to be in the works. I'd like to be the first to officially recommend Dick Cheney as their next drummer...

I WONDER WHY?

According to reports. The Jonas Brothers have said that they are "very nervous" about their upcoming Grammy show performance. Could it be;

a) because they are talentless,
b) because when they normally perform they are afforded a backing track complete with computer engineers trusted with covering for mistakes and beefing up sound,
c) because instead of playing in front of ten thousand screaming pre-teen girls, who know nothing about music, they are playing in front of a roomful of musicians,
d) Kevin's got a huge zit in the middle of his forehead

You decide.

PALTROW TO WRITE COOKBOOK

Gwenyth Paltrow is set to write a cookbook in her mission to enlighten more people on the importance of healthy eating.

Interesting...I can't help but wonder when the last time she ate was.

The Music Didn't Die...

50 Years Ago Tonight... Clear Lake, Iowa... The Winter Dance Party featuring Richie Valens, J.P. "The Big Bopper" Richardson, Buddy Holly, and Dion & The Belmonts went on as scheduled. When it came time to fly or drive to the next gig, Buddy's bandmates Tommy Allsup and Waylon Jennings (perhaps you recall him singing-on them rascally Duke boys) gave up their seats for Richie Valens (who had never flown before) and The Big Bopper (who had the flu). Dion decided the price for a seat (equal to a month's rent of his parents apartment) was too high and elected to ride the bus with the rest of the bands. So off they went, into a plane with a pilot not rated for night flying and without proper weather information. As anyone could guess it ended poorly.

But tonight we can celebrate and remember them alive and on stage with performances all over the country including some big ones from New Jersey to Iowa.

Tomorrow we mourn.

And on Wednesday's show you can expect a weepy Professor to remind you of just WHY you should mourn the loss of Buddy Holly. Quite simply one of the most important figures in Rock and Roll. Innovation, killer riffs, great songs and the classic early tragic death set a pattern for so many future Rock stars... Not Fade Away indeed. Look for a lot of covers... maybe even a 'He-llooooooo baby!"
The Professor knows all the words to "Chantilly Lace".
"Oh Baby, you knoooow what I like!"

THE MIGHTY WHISTLEPIG HAS SPOKEN!

...6 more weeks of winter.
