For 5+ years, Coach B. and the Professor hijacked the airways each week on Loyola Radio to bring you everything you needed to know, and many things you didn't, from the world of Golf, Sports and Entertainment.

IN THE ROUGH! ended its run in February of 2010 but lives on right here on the world wide web.

03/25/09 Show Playlist

Well, it wasn't intended to be a covers show, it just turned out to be a lot of them! I don't normally bother including the album titles in the playlists, but since there are a lot of obscure and worthwhile covers in this show, I thought I'd at least make it easier for you to track them down and buy them! Yes, as much as I hate the RIAA and SoundExchange, you SHOULD be buying your music to support the artists that produce it, if not the lawyers that actually keep most of the money...

Anyway, we found a lot of good stuff this time out, tapping tributes to Warren Zevon, Bruce Springsteen, Lowell George (Little Feat in case you don't know, which would be sad), The Rolling Stones, Aerosmith and The Beatles. Check 'em out:

The Wallflowers - Lawyers, Guns and Money - Enjoy Every Sandwich
Los Lobos - Johnny 99 - Badlands: A Tribute to Bruce Springsteen
Eddie Money - Rock n Roll Doctor - Rock n Roll Doctor: A Tribute to Lowell George
Swamp Cabbage - More Booty with Buddah - Honk
Bruce Springsteen - Radio Nowhere - Magic
Johnnie Taylor - Who's Making Love - Stax 50th Anniversary Celebration
Little Richard - Brown Sugar - Cover You: A Tribute to the Rolling Stones
Bonnie Raitt - Cold, Cold, Cold - Rock n Roll Doctor: A Tribute to Lowell George
Aretha Franklin - You Can't Always Get What You Want - Cover You: A Tribute to the Rolling Stones
The Vaughn Brothers - The Telephone Song - Family Style
The Felice Brothers - Frankie's Gun - The Felice Brothers
Heart - Straight On - Essential Heart
Jackson Browne & Bonnie Raitt - Poor Poor Pitiful Me - Enjoy Every Sandwich
Lang, Hunter, Ronson, Pappalardi - Silent Movie - The Secret Sessions
The Byrds - So You Wanna Be A Rock 'n Roll Star - Monterey International Pop Festival
Marshall Crenshaw & Sugar Blue - Big Ten Inch Record - Sweet Emotion: Songs of Aerosmith
Black Crowes - Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds - I Am Sam Soundtrack
The Silos - Let's Take Some Drugs and Drive Around - Grooves #3
Chris Duarte Group - More Boogie - Vantage Point
Cowboy Junkies - Run For Your Life - This Bird Has Flown
Cowboy Junkies - Horse in the Country - Black Eyed Man
Sam Moore & Billy Gibbons - If I Had No Loot - Overnight Sensational

Now there are some non-covers in the show since we didn't set out to do a covers show, or, quite frankly, prepare much... We can't help but play Swamp Cabbage because they're great and we need other people to know that. If you haven't heard the Byrds version of Rock n' Roll Star that they did at Monterey Pop, you need to. It's running about 3,000 miles an hour and seems like everyone must have collapsed at the end of it. The drummer is playing in 12/4 time or something! One might suspect he was more than just 'excited' to be there...
